Stopper Islands, Kayak Route
Time: 4 hrs return
Dates: Feb 16 2005
Weather:Sunny and warm
Ocean conditions:Flat Calm
This is out of the normal for me but I could'nt refuse when I got the offer. To paddle over to the Stopper Islands one nice sunny day in early Febuary. It was going to be my first ocean Kayak trip luckily my professional guide for the day was Robert Gunn. On that peticular day we were just doing a little scouting around and warming up the arms. The paddle over to the island is fairly short and makes for a good afternoon trip for those having nothing else to do while in the area. On the second Island there is a nice spot to picinic or even camp if that's on the agenda.
How to get To Stopper Islands Leaving from Port Alberni drive West on Hwy 4# towards the West Coast turn left onto Toquart Bay "Samlon Beach" logging main, roughly 80km from PA. Drive on gravel for 16km to reach Toquart Bay Recreational Area, the Stopper Islands are South East here.
