Augerpoint and Sid Watts - Mid Summer Day Trip
11hrs return

     Date: Aug 13 2007

Augerpoint Sid Watts

Weather:Sunny / Cool

Day Tripping in Strathcona Went up Jack Fell Trail last weekend weather was a mix of sun and clouds. Got my first taste of frost on the hike through the lower meadows Brrrr... Higher up the sun came out and warmed things up making the hike over the bumps to the col that separated Augerpoint and Syd Watts. Was amazed at the amount of snow still up there at this time of year but it was a treat to walk on. No snow going up Augerpoint and had good views towards Buttle Lake but Albert Edward was hiding in the clouds. Descended down then traversed steep scree slopes to low angled ridge which lead up to the summit of Syd Watts. The going here was also-good but had to hike south west over the ridge to bypass a rocky nob which looked a little awkward to hike over. Gain ridge once around nob then hiked a bit further on before a short climb 100m up steep rock/scree to the summit. Nice views of Sid Williams now I'll have to get my butt up there one day All in all a very nice day and well needed for this dude some pictures of the hike can be found at the link below
